Scale Models Expo is back in 2018!

We’re really pleased to announce that we’re hosting another Scale Models Expo in April 2018 – read all about it on our Expo page. Hopefully the Christmas holidays will give you plenty of time to work on those competition entries or start new ones ready for the show. Don’t forget that the competition is open to everyone, young and old, and you don’t need to be a club member to take part.

We’ll be going into more detail about what to expect and introducing our special guests, sponsors and vendors starting early next year. Watch this space!

Club Competition entries

We held our annual competition at the weekend and had nearly 150 entries from our members. All in all a great finish to another year of model building!

Club Competition: 12th November 2017

Our annual Club Competition is taking place on Sunday the 12th of November 2017 at the Petone Working Mens Club, Udy Street, Petone – we’ll be upstairs in the Games Room as last year. So there’s still time to finish up those super-secret projects and get them on the tables, but don’t leave it too late!

This is a private club event – you need to be a current financial member of Scale Models Wellington IPMS to enter the competition – but you can join up on the day and members are welcome to bring guests and whanau. Hope to see you there!

Make models or want to learn how? Join us!

Our club is a great place to take part in the hobby of scale model building. We welcome adults and children to share their awesome creations and learn new skills. You’ll also be able to see what our everyone’s working on, teach us new tricks, and just enjoy talking about models at our monthly meetings. New members and guests are always welcome – just come along to one of our meetings.

If you have questions about the club please get in touch, or read more about us.

Club meetings

We meet on the last Wednesday of every month apart from December, in the Johnsonville Community Hall. We use the Trust Room, which is upstairs from the Moorefield Road entrance. Meetings start at 7.30pm and usually end around 9.30-10pm.

Our meetings start with a Show & Tell session, where members show off models they’ve built or are working on, and talk about the process and the end result. After this we have a cup of tea or coffee and a chat, and there’s often something organised as well – we’ve had quizzes, technique demonstrations, speed builds, and other modelling-related activities.

Where we meet

What we do

Our members build models from all kinds of materials – plastic, resin, metal, wood and more besides. We see a good variety of subjects: Not just aeroplanes and military vehicles – although there are plenty of those – but fast cars, ships, figures, trucks, and creations from the worlds of science-fiction and fantasy too. It’s all good.
